Fine dining at sallie in fairhope

Sallie in Fairhope, AL

Sallie is a bright spot in Fairhope dining: You might not know the name Sallie, but apparently a good number of people around the eastern shore do. Sallie offers fine dining to the public one day a week (Thursday). The rest of the time, Sallie operates as a private dining and special events venue, offering brunch, lunch or dinner for parties of 10 or more. Colleen and I wind up at Sallie over the weekend after getting a preview of the menu for a trial run at Sunday brunch.

On a gorgeous spring-like day, we are seated outside at tables with white cloth. Colleen orders the six ounce Petit Filet with Eggs En Cocotte (eggs baked in cream and Boursin cheese) ($22). I choose the New Orleans style Shrimp and Grits ($17). Both dishes are excellent (the filet has wonderful flavor). Kierra, our server, is friendly and helpful. Our total without tip winds up at $45.78. We had dined at Sallie once before during a friend’s surprise birthday party in June. The meal and service are excellent and I know then that this is a place to watch. Sure enough, the Sunday brunch is a success in our book, too. But owner Sally Stringfellow tells me that she doesn’t plan to do the brunch again. However, she does share that she plans to open to the public for two evenings–FEB 13th and 14th–for Valentine’s Day. And, she plans to be open during Fairhope’s Mardis Gras parades.

Sally says she’ll post menus on her website. You can tell from the entrees Sallie offers that Sally is no rookie at serving fine food. An Alabama native, Sally grew up on a dairy farm near Fort Payne and has been a private chef for close to nine years. After attending culinary school at Faulkner State Community College, she works at Jesse’s in Magnolia Springs about seven years, starting as a sous chef and later moving up to executive chef. Sallie has become popular among people wanting to hold private dinner parties. Located at the corner of Pine St and N Bancroft St, the restaurant can seat up to 40 people and also offers heated outdoor seating on the lawn. Sally says people are already booking for Valentine’s Day but that she still has slots open. Reservations are required for all meals.

  1. I am a member of the Epicureans Dining Club and would be interested in experiencing your restaurant! Do you serve wine with your meals or can we have a byob? And, we generally meet on the 2nd Tuesday of the month for dinner. We generally have anywhere from 15 to 25 members, which we will give you a head count before rhe date. We do have our anniversary coming up in April so it could be a Sunday brunch. Text me or email me at 251-605-2133 or gibsong@bellsouth.net. Thank you!
