Deep Blue heads for deep blue
Deep Blue, a 677 foot by 104 foot pipe layer, heads out of Mobile Bay Sunday afternoon, moving at 9 mph. Deep Blue is described as the largest purpose-built ultra deepwater pipelay and subsea construction vessel in the world. Capable of accommodating up to 120 people, the ship can carry up to 29,606 barrels of fuel, allowing it to travel at sea for 50 days. Equipped with three cranes and a helipad, Deep Blue can reel more than 5,000 tons of pipe ranging from four inches to 18 inches. Photo shot from Magnolia Park in Fairhope, roughly 6.5 miles away…
