GSL Effie: A Big One In The Bay

GSL Effie, a 1,155 foot by 140 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Liberia, heads out of Mobile Bay JAN 28th 2026, beginning a six day voyage to Cartagena, Colombia. With a draught of 38 feet, the ship moves at 12 mph. GSL Effie is on a short list of the biggest ships to make a port call at Mobile. The largest container ship to visit the city measures 1,192 feet, which is 37 feet longer than GSL Effie. According to ship manifests, GSL Effie carries Carebear Hugmee Squishmallow toys and around twelve tons of paper for inkjet printers plus Vellux blankets, wind turbine parts, automotive parts and radial tires for trucks and buses.
