‘Submarine Killer’ Over Fairhope

A US Navy Boeing P8 Poseidon is captured just before sunset OCT 1st 2025, making a pass over Fairhope. Based out of Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Poseidon crews regularly appear over the central Gulf coast as part of training by practicing touch-and-go landings at Brookley Field in Mobile. Based on the airframe used for Boeing’s 737 commercial jet, Poseidons specialize in anti-submarine warfare by helping detect enemy subs and even attacking them by using torpedoes mounted under the wings. Humanitarian uses including search and rescue missions are additional duties Poseidons can provide. Australia, United Kingdom, Norway, New Zealand, South Korea, Germany and Canada are other countries whose military also fly the Poseidon.
