Jubilee in Fairhope

Jubilees don’t happen often. But just such an event takes place during the early morning hours of JUL 17 2025. People wanting to retrieve fish out of Mobile Bay have to be ready to respond in a flash when they occur. Jubilees are a natural phenomenon known to take place in Mobile Bay. Research suggests they occur when oxygen in the Bay becomes depleted, driving fish to the surface. Wind direction, surface temperature, salinity and tides are all believed to factors in Jubilees. A wide variety of fish, shrimp and crabs are seen when Jubilees occur, and local residents are quick to retrieve them. Photos by David Gluth…
