Zim Mei Zhou, a 1,099 foot by 140 foot container ship sailing under the flag of China, passes Gaillard Island on its way into the port of Mobile around midday Thursday. With a draught of 36 feet, the ship moves at 13 mph while completing a two day voyage from Houston. According to ship manifests, Zim Mei Zhou is loaded with roughly 124 tons worth of Libby’s pineapple chunks and pineapple crush in juice, about 8.5 tons of Ikea children’s armchair frames, around 30 tons of chum salmon filets, about 47 tons of Uganda Arabica coffee, roughly 57 tons of diced red peppers, around 57 tons of diced green peppers and roughly 28 tons of diced cooked garlic.
