APL Danube Slips Out At Sunset

APL Danube, a 984 foot by 158 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Malta, heads out of Mobile Bay Monday evening, beginning a two day voyage to New Orleans. With a draught of 39 feet, the ship moves at 14 mph. According to ship manifests, APL Danube is loaded with tires, air conditioning compressors, vulcanized rubber tracks and about 25 tons of Malaysian Keruing (Dipterocarpus grandiflorus), also known as Apitong, which–as everyone knows–is a hardwood commonly used in truck flooring because of its strength and durability.
