Coast Guard over Mobile Bay

US Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk

A US Coast Guard MH-60T Jayhawk air crew flies along the edge of Mobile Bay JAN 15 2025. In service since 1990, the Jayhawk provides multi-mission capability for the Coast Guard. Search and rescue, law enforcement, drug interdiction and marine environmental protection missions are among the roles the aircraft handles. Capable of cruising at 170 knots (195 mph), Jayhawks have a range of 700 nautical miles, can climb to 13,000 feet and can stay in the air for six and a half hours. The aircraft can be equipped with a machine gun for firing warning shots and a shoulder-fired weapon for precise targeting. The Coast Guard is working to extend the service life of its Jayhawk fleet which it hopes will enable the aircraft to operate through the 2030s. The Jayhawk is the Coast Guard’s version of the Army’s Blackhawk helicopter.
