Working Waterfront Project
Two days of rain play havoc with efforts to resurface the hill leading down to Fairhope’s pier park from Mobile St. The work in this area is what required closure of the park to vehicular traffic the week of JUN 16 2025. The project’s manager says it’s frustrating to have everything needed for the project–workers, materials and equipment–only to have rainwater rushing down the hill wash away parts of the project area. The manager’s comments come while thunder rumbles and lightning ground strikes can be seen across the Bay. Wednesday, he says, will be a critical day to determine whether crews can get enough work done so that the roadway can be reopened by the end of the week. The good news: Crews say work on the main circular area containing the fountain should be ready for the Fourth of July. As for the new restrooms and South Beach park, don’t expect those to open until later in the summer.
