Thyme’s Grilled Salmon Rocks
Colleen and I stop in at Thyme on Section for dinner JAN 10th 2026. We start with appetizers of Truffle Fries ($9) along with a cup of Tuscan white bean soup ($4). With truffle oil, scallions and truffle aioli, the fries are a long time favorite and never disappoint. Neither does the soup, which contains Conecuh sausage, kale, zucchini, tomato and herbs (and if I had remembered to take a picture of the soup, you’d probably agree that you need to try it). You can also get a bowl of the soup for $6.
Colleen has been a fan of Thyme’s grilled Atlantic salmon for a long time. The restaurant rotates their menu seasonally, so the salmon is served differently at times. She picks the current offering featuring butternut squash, curry, kale, red pepper, zucchini, fried rice and sweet potato along with a toasted almond and coconut crunch ($25). When the entree shows up, it seems to speak for itself. “You’re about to be a happy camper,” is what we seem to hear. That assessment is spot on. Colleen calls this Thyme’s best salmon ever, and I have to admit that the sample I try is really good (the coconut crunch adds a whole new dimension). Would she get this again? “Absolutely.”
For my main course, I go for the Cashew chicken salad ($18). With mixed greens, sweet chili fried chicken, cashews, red peppers, and cabbage topped with ginger-sesame dressing, it’s little wonder that Thyme keeps this dish on the menu throughout the seasons due to demand. I’ve ordered this salad several times before and it’s always a treat. The blend of flavors with crunchy tidbits is wonderful. Tonight is no different.
Our total without tip lands at $61.04 if paid with cash.
If you’re interested in Sunday brunch, Thyme is a good spot to hit then, too. During a visit just before Christmas, a plate of shrimp and grits shows up in front of me. Of course, the way this dish is prepared varies widely among restaurants. So, would I get Thyme’s S&G again? Definitely.
As has become SOP with our visits to Thyme, service during last night’s meal is excellent, with Angela making sure we have everything we need. When asked, we assure her that we have no room for dessert, and that’s unfortunate, because, on the few times we’ve been able to work some in, it was wonderful. But we figure it would be publicly embarrassing to have to be rolled out of the restaurant on a stretcher, so we call it quits after the main courses. Maybe going just for dessert and coffee some time is the thing to do…
