Colleen and I stop in at Thyme on Section Saturday night and find that management has just recently rolled out their spring menu. I had been thinking of ordering the Bistro Steak, which has been a favorite, but notice that it has been replaced by the Bistro Steak salad ($30): Same grilled teres major steak, but instead of Thymeโs Truffle fries, this entree comes with a mixed green salad containing strawberries, almonds, goat cheese, red onions and cherry tomatoes.
Given that the salad sounds really good–coupled with knowing that every salad weโve ever had here was excellent–the decision is made. We both order the Bistro salad. But can I turn my back on the truffle fries? Fortunately, those remain available as an appetizer ($9). Jeff, our server, shows up with our fries, made with truffle aioli, parmesan and scallion. Thyme has served these fries for years, and thereโs no mystery why. I continue to consider them the best Iโve had, and tonightโs fries are as good as ever. When our entrees show up, my first reaction at the appearance is: Feast! Colorful, chilled and fresh as can be, the salad calls my name to dig in. Strawberry season is starting, and these berries are wonderful. The balsamic vinaigrette is a great accompaniment.ย
Iโd have to declare my medium rare steak (cooked exactly as requested) to be JPO (just plain outstanding). Tender and full of flavor, every bite is a treat. Colleen feels the same way about her salad and steak. Our cash total without tip lands at $75.21. As this place has done in the past, a look at the refreshed menu makes me realize that weโre going to have to come back. The Jambalaya Risotto and New York Strip are among offerings Iโd love to try, while Colleen is a huge fan of the Seared Tuna (and I keep saying I need to try their burger which others have told me is excellent).
Thyme doesnโt have the biggest menu on the planet, but they want to make sure that every entree is the best it can be. And you still have a lot of choices. After yet another visit, we walk out thankful that Fairhope is blessed to have many great places to dine. Thyme on Section proves again for us that itโs definitely one of themโฆ
