Submarine Killer Overhead

A US Navy Boeing P-8 Poseidon makes passes over the eastern shore the morning of JAN 28th 2026 while practicing touch-and-go landings at Brookley Field in Mobile. If the aircraft looks similar to a commercial passenger jet, that’s because the P-8 is based on Boeing’s 737, with modifications made to accommodate military use. The Poseidon is equipped with sonobuoys, advanced communications systems and sensors including acoustic monitors. The aircraft can also be outfitted with torpedoes, helping earn its nickname as a submarine killer.
