𝙏𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙨, 𝙖𝙘𝙞𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙩𝙨:
San Felipe, a 983 foot by 157 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands, passes Gaillard Island while heading to the port of Mobile Wednesday morning. Moving at 11 mph with a draught of 37 feet, the ship finishes a two day voyage from Houston. According to ship manifests, San Felipe carries about 144 tons of terephthalic acid (used in the manufacture of plastics, textiles and packaging), around 61 tons of new aircraft tires, about 140 tons of garden raised beds, roughly 10 tons of felt, and about 444 tons of polystyrene, along with kitchen cabinets, water pump housings and artificial quartz stone plus parts for excavators. Manifests indicate most of the ship’s cargo was loaded in South Korea. Photo shot from Orange St pier in Fairhope, roughly 6.5 miles away…
