Frying pans, pet stairs and garage shelving: CMA CGM Melisande, a 1,098 foot by 140 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Malta, passes Gaillard Island on its way into the port of Mobile on JAN 24 2025. With a draught of 42 feet, the ship moves at 9 mph while finishing a day’s trip from Houston. According to ship manifests, CMA CGM Melisande carries nearly 90 tons worth of electric storage batteries and parts, about 18 tons of pet stairs, more than 190 tons of tetrachloropropene (a solvent used in the preparation of pesticides), along with garage wall shelving, valve parts, frying pans and bar stools.
