Lots of power on this ship!
With whitecaps in the Bay, CMA CGM Attila, a 1,099 foot by 140 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Malta, passes Gaillard Island on its way into the port of Mobile Friday afternoon. With a draught of 40 feet, the ship moves at 14 mph while finishing a day’s trip from Houston. According to ship manifests, CMA CGM Attila carries roughly 1,113 tons worth of lithium batteries, about 12.5 tons of digital camera equipment, around 13 tons of electronic toys and roughly 40 tons worth of frozen farm raised tilapia filets along with jewelry cabinets, home arcade games, double sided solar panels, beds, sofas, chairs and plastic meal boxes. Documents indicate that nearly all of the ship’s cargo was loaded in China. Photo shot from Magnolia Park in Fairhope, about 6.5 miles away…
