Kingfisher Adds Brunch
In the over one year that Kingfisher Seafood restaurant has been open, eastern shore residents make the place a regular spot for both lunch and dinner. But now, Kingfisher steps up their offerings by serving brunch Saturday and Sundays. Colleen and I stop in last weekend to give the new brunch menu a try.
The cajun seafood influence jumps straight off the menu at you, with choices like a Boudin Omelet and Crawfish Omelet plus three styles of Benedicts including catfish along with mimosas and Bloody Marys. In case you want to stay more mainstream, lemon blueberry pancakes, avocado toast, a breakfast scrambler and chicken with biscuits are additional possibilities–and there’s a brunch for kids.
Colleen picks the Boudin Omelet ($16) and–after remembering how much I enjoyed a Boudin appetizer during a previous visit–I pick the Boudin Benedict ($16). Our plates don’t take long to come out. As soon as Colleen starts on her omelet, the tone of the meal is set. With three eggs stuffed with boudin, pepper jack cheese and topped with gravy, she loves it. Cheese grits and a biscuit show up, too, and she says both are great. My Boudin Benedict consists of three poached eggs which are then fried in a crispy shell with pickled onions added and placed on top of a generous size boudin patty that’s topped with brown butter hollandaise. My meal is wonderful (though I might ask for a little more hollandaise next time). Colleen and I agree that, if there’s a list of decadent meals to enjoy in Fairhope, these two would be on it.
Beth is our server and, between being as friendly as can be and making sure we have everything we need, gets an A+ for her efforts.
With a cup of freshly ground coffee (they grind coffee individually by the cup), our total without tip would normally wind up at around $38, but Kingfisher informs us that our meal is being comped, something we don’t ask restaurants to do. While folks know about lunch and dinner here, management says they’d like to get the word out about Kingfisher’s brunch, which is offered weekends starting at 9:30. While brunch is more of a Sunday-only offering at most places, we like the fact that you can start the weekend off with meals like this on Saturday.
