MSC Texas, a 1,095 foot by 140 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Liberia, heads out of Mobile Bay Friday afternoon. Moving at 12 mph with a draught of 36 feet, the ship begins a day’s trip to Tampa. According to ship manifests, MSC Texas carries roughly 290 tons of apple juice concentrate, more than sixty tons of Cassia Ground Korin cinnamon, roughly 40 tons of kitchen cabinets plus about 57 tons of sodium diacetate (a chemical compound used as flavoring in food but also as an antimicrobial agent) along with camper trailers, vinyl flooring, radial tires for cars and trucks plus cement tiles, blocks and wooden furniture.
