Fairhope Elks: Christmas Giving
If you’re looking for a sign of real Christmas spirit in the area, you need go only as far as the local Elks Lodge to find it. That’s where members spend time filling around seventy boxes with food for families in need throughout the Baldwin county area. “Along with the food for each family, we have provided toys for at least 200 children, ranging in age from newborn to 19 years old,” volunteer Karla Boyse says. This is a cooperative venture with the US Marines Toys for Tots which delivers toys to the Lodge for distribution. Elks members purchase food which is then placed in boxes alongside bags full of toys, which are matched with recipients based on gender and age. Karla believes this is the eleventh consecutive year that the Lodge has helped local families. Elks members wouldn’t have it any other way…
