Ecumenical Ministries Fairhope
Behind the scenes of a Fairhope success story: You may not know about the work Ecumenical Ministries does for people in need around the eastern shore (I didn’t). Imagine a group of people who put food on the table for sixty to eighty eastern shore residents every weekday, without government funding. EMI (“Emmy”), as it’s called, is a social services agency that shuns bloated bureaucracy, costly executive salaries and high profile fund drives. EMI is all local, focusing on the needs of people around the eastern shore and Baldwin county. And while leaders admit that it’s not a large organization, the numbers they turn out impress (in the last decade, EMI repairs over 800 area homes whose owners didn’t have the money). People facing all types of crises–from job losses to disabilities, medical issues and more–receive assistance. This non-denominational faith-based agency works with area churches to help people who are struggling. EMI couldn’t do what it does without eastern shore residents supporting them financially and by volunteering. Piggly Wiggly and Publix are among area businesses that help. Donations are tax deductible. Recently, the people who lead EMI invite me to take a look at the operation they run just down Fairhope Ave from the post office. Who knows? Maybe you’ll reach out to EMI to say you’d like to help with building their inspiring success story. You can reach them at 251-928-3430 with questions. Hope you enjoy the video…
