Cajun Store Owner Pulls Out
Perry Boyd, the Mississippi native who, along with a partner, announced plans to open a Cajun convenience store in the old Bay Break building on S Mobile St in Fairhope, says the project is dead as far as the location is concerned. A coming soon banner advertising Southern Bayou Market has been removed from the front of the building. “It’s not happening,” Boyd says. Boyd ran into problems obtaining permits needed to operate a food service from the location. Boyd and partner Barbara Edwards released the following statement MAY 13th 2025:
“Southern Bayou Market will unfortunately not be able to utilize the Bay Break as originally planned, due to specific zoning requirements. We are currently looking for a commissary in order to utilize our food trailer, The Rolling Fork, so that Perry can share his Cajun/Southern creations. We are excited to get started and sincerely apologize for the delay in opening. The Market is still in the plans, but it will be at another location to be determined, hopefully, in the near future. Until then, stay tuned for when The Rolling Fork is rolling!”
Boyd says another location in Baldwin county is under consideration for the store, but nothing has been confirmed.
