Breeze has just announced that it is terminating air service from Mobile effective JAN 31st. The airline began flying out of Mobile in April of 2024, offering service to Orlando, Tampa and Charleston. But most flights were less than half full, making the cost of providing service not sustainable.

Breeze’s departure leaves Mobile International Airport without a commercial airline. Eastern shore residents wishing to fly from out of the area will have to use either Mobile’s regional airport or Pensacola. Breeze is the second carrier to recently announce service to Mobile, only to withdraw later. Avelo Airlines started serving Mobile in May of 2023 before ending service MAR 4th 2024. Frontier Airlines, also citing low demand, pulled out of Mobile in April of 2020.

Mobile International Airport will likely see a return of commercial air service either late this year or in early 2026. That’s when Mobile’s Airport Authority is expected to transfer all commercial service from Mobile’s Regional Airport to the International Airport as part of an expansion project. Plans for the new terminal include five gates that can be expanded to twelve along with a parking deck that can accommodate 1,250 vehicles. The project was initially predicted to cost around $381 million, but some recent estimates are close to $414 million…
