Beds, Booze and Coffee Aboard
MSC Ela, a 964 foot by 106 foot container ship sailing under the flag of Panama, heads into the port of Mobile Sunday afternoon. With a draught of 44 feet, the ship moves at 9 mph while finishing a four day trip from New Orleans. According to ship manifests, MSC Ela’s cargo includes 55 tons worth of Patron Silver X tequila loaded in Mexico, nearly 22 tons of decaffeinated raw coffee loaded in Germany, about 45 tons of wooden furniture including bedroom sets and recliners, around 25.5 tons of Glyoxal (a chemical used in textiles and paper), approximately 26 tons of peat moss and nearly 22 tons of naptha plus pneumatic radial rubber tires, granite slabs and primed finger joined boards.
