Barbecue Shrimp w/Jambalaya

When a mid-week seafood craving hits, Colleen and I drop in at Fairhope’s Kingfisher Seafood Restaurant for dinner. The place is so busy that our names go on a wait list (but less than ten minutes later, they’re calling our name). I go for the bacon-wrapped barbecue shrimp over jambalaya ($19) which comes with a choice of salad or coleslaw. She opts for the grilled salmon ($25), accompanied by a stuffed potato and coleslaw. For as packed as the place is, we’re pleasantly surprised at how soon our food comes out–it doesn’t take long at all, which tells me that the kitchen crew knows how to crank it out, even when there’s a lot going on. My salad and entree are delish–the shrimp are especially good. You don’t plan to take a bite out of the soft roll that shows up on the plate? Good luck with that! Colleen says the salmon is excellent (and generous in size). She really likes her slaw, which has peanuts in it. Sellen provides our service and does a good job. Total without tip: $47.96.

Open since late December, we enjoy visiting here regularly. From the crowds showing up even during what are traditionally non-peak times, Kingfisher has obviously established a firm spot on Fairhope’s food radar…
