American’s ‘Workhorse’ Aloft

American Airlines flight 2762 passes over Fairhope’s Flying Creek DEC 19th 2025 while heading for Texas. Captured about 20,250 feet or roughly four miles up, the Airbus A319 flies toward Dallas while moving at a ground speed of 367 knots or 422 mph during the roughly ninety minute flight from Pensacola. The A319 is considered a workhorse for American Airlines, which is believed to be operating more than 130 of the aircraft. That makes American the largest user of the aircraft, although the airline is gradually replacing its A319s with A321neos as part of a fleet modernization project. The A319 is considered especially useful on short to medium distance flights and is used extensively to bring passengers into hub airports including DFW.
