City of Hamburg, a 415 foot by 67 foot Ro-ro cargo ship sailing under the flag of France, heads into the port of Mobile Monday morning, finishing 15 days at sea. Moving at 6 mph with a draught of 15 feet, the ship concludes a voyage that began MAR 22nd from Montoir, on the coast of France. City of Hamburg is one of the ships Airbus uses to bring sections of new airplanes to the companyโ€™s manufacturing complex in Mobile for assembly. Ro-ro ships get their name from the fact that cargo can be rolled on and off the ship instead of having to be picked up by a crane. In Alabama, Airbus employs more than 2,000 people at its aircraft production and engineering facilities. The company produced its 500th aircraft in AUG 2024.
